About the adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize

Adultshop.com and ARTRAGE are again collaborating to host the second adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize, show-casing a selection of works from across Australia competing for a $10,000 prize.

The exhibition will take place in Perth, Western Australia over the month of March 2007.

In a society where perceptions towards sex and sexuality are evolving, adultshop.com caters to an ever growing base of consumers interested in sexual discovery and experimentation.

Managing Director, Malcolm Day, heads a team of forward thinking professionals dedicated to providing quality products, relevant advice, and up to date information in a fun and open manner.

Mr. Day's keen interest in the arts and a desire to continually stimulate the art versus porn debate instigated the creation of the adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize.

Through a dynamic collaboration with ARTRAGE; this idea has become a very successful reality.

There was never any doubt that artists all over Australia would be keen to participate - certainly for the chance to win a generous prize rarely offered to the Arts by business, and almost just as certainly, to express their take on this widely debated issue.

What does differentiate erotic art from something defined as 'porn?'

The 2007 adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize and exhibition again invites Australian artists to explore this question and create an exhibition that will no doubt break ARTRAGE exhibition attendance records.

The 2005 attendance average was 200 members of the general public every day for the duration of the exhibition.

Adultshop.com erotic art prize is the most exciting cultural initiative to appear on the Perth arts scene in recent history.

Exciting, but not surprising.

After all, you'd expect something pretty special when one of the most successful adult entertainment companies in the world jumps into bed with one of Western Australia's most dynamic contemporary arts organisations.

The partnership between AdultShop.com and ARTRAGE is founded in innovation - both organisations share the desire to stimulate society at large.

ARTRAGE works in partnership with a wide range of organisations, both arts, and non-arts related.

2005 saw ARTRAGE Festival brimming with exciting events from many different fields, with a rich program of arts and cultural events being held throughout Northbridge and this year's 'Ten Days on ARTRAGE' will take place between Oct 26 - Nov 5.

ARTRAGE also manages a number of arts venues including The Bakery ARTRAGE Complex, and the breadbox gallery.

ARTRAGE supports the development of a wide range of projects and artists, both through special initiatives and productions, and through the ARTRAGE INCUBATOR Program, which supports the development of a core group of works and artists over a two - three year period.
